AUTISM LEGAL
Accommodations
Often, accommodations which are being offered in the IEPs are insufficient, or if there are accommodations that the student needs, then they were not offered at all. A student who is eligible for special education under the primary category of Autism (AUT), ADHD, Specific Learning Disability (SLD), or Speech or Language Impairment (SLI), has most likely deficits in their areas of need.
Accommodations are often not only vague, but they are also inadequate. Students need additional accommodations, which have not been specified with particularity. Sending students to a general classroom, or to a special day class without making the accommodations necessary to enable Student to obtain a FAPE, violate the IDEA.
